Call of Duty? what?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 box art was released earlier today on Robert Bowling's twitter feed, leading us to believe that the official game title will include the Call of Duty moniker. The decision to shorten the title to Modern Warfare 2 has been the source of quiet controversy for months, ever since a survey conducted in June found that cutting the well-known Call of Duty brand from the title nearly halved consumer awareness of the product.

Game Informer interview

If you read the June issue of Game Informer, then you no doubt saw the blurb where readers had a chance to ask the staff about Modern Warfare 2. While the title has quickly become one of, if not the, most anticipated games of the year, there may be a few bullet points fans are looking to have answered. If you submitted a question and do not see it here, don’t fret as a lot of gamers think alike and we received many similar questions on a variety of topics.

Q. Can the Modern Warfare 2 campaign be played with two players?

A. No. I specifically asked about this, and the campaign is single-player only.

Q. Hey, some of my friends are wondering for female gamers, will there be female soldiers for them to play as?

A. Possibly in multiplayer, since I didn't get any details about it. In the single-player campaign, you'll be playing as specific soldiers, just like in the Call of Duty games.

Q. Who are all the Characters besides Capt. MacTavish and "Roach" ?

A. Makarov is the sociopathic new leader of the Russian ultranationalists, who took over from Zakhaev after the events of the first game. In Sao Paolo, there is an arms dealer targeted by Task Force 141 who wasn't named. Infinity Ward was very concerned about giving out any story spoilers, so that's about all I can tell you.

Q. Are there completely destructible environments on this game?

A. No. There are objects like electrical transformers and crates that can be blown up, but the geometry – the landscape, structures, etc. – are not destructible to the best of my knowledge.

Q. What new guns are there?
Q. What weapons will be on it?

A. The only new weapon I saw was the assault rifle with the motion sensor that was shown during the E3 demo. Other weapons had upgraded animations and models, so they looked great, but that's all I know.

Q. I recently got the newest Game Informer and I would like to know when Modern Warfare 2 is coming out and if it is part of the Call of Duty series.

A. MW2 grows out of the Call of Duty series, but it's not explicitly part of the franchise. The same team that created the first two CoD games as well as CoD: Modern Warfare is behind this one. It's coming out November 10.

Q. Will Infinity Ward make playing multiplayer free. I have an Xbox 360 and I have yet to get a Gold membership. Will I still have to?

A. You'll definitely need a Gold membership to play over Xbox Live just like any game. Infinity Ward has emphatically denied the rumors that there will be additional fees to play Modern Warfare 2.

Q. Will the dismemberment be similar to Call of duty World at War?

A. You can expect a similar level of violence to what is present in Infinity Ward's last game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Q. please send me all information, i need to know all details from this wonderful new game!!!! thank's a lot...

A. No.

Q. Quick question: I'm curious on if it'll be a first-person shooter or third-person shooter?

A. Like every single game the team at Infinity Ward has ever made, stretching back to their days on Medal of Honor, Modern Warfare 2 will be first-person.

Q. hey um were is cod6 taking place like antartica or something?i just got the magazine yesterday and i saw that it was snowing like hell.oh and 1 more question 4 u.when u are a marine in cod6 are u like sgt.paul jacksons brother or something?

A. Um, no.

Q. Why isn't Modern Warfare 2 called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? I've looked all over the net for the reason behind this and haven't found any info on it.

A. To the best of my knowledge, Infinity Ward wanted to be in control of their own destiny, so to speak. The developers wanted a brand name to be all about Infinity Ward, and not about titles developed by other studios.

Q. Will there be two player on xbox live????? Or maybe 4 player?????
Q. As you know Call of Duty World at War has a bonus game known as Nazi zombies. In Modern Warfare 2, are you going to have a similar bonus game, if one at all?
Q. I just wanted to know if the will have multiplayer character customization, and multiple weapon attachments like for example a red dot scope, with a silencer. Also, will the vehicles be available in multiplayer (like the tank in waw) ?

A. I asked all kinds of questions about multiplayer, and Infinity Ward refused to spill on it. I'm sorry. I tried.

Latest news

There was a time in this industry when "co-op" automatically meant two players. But things have changed drastically in the world of multiplayer gaming, and now, there really isn't any limitation (just look at the upcoming MAG).

However, Infinity Ward still believes two players is the sweet spot for cooperative-based gameplay. In a VideoGamer interview with the studio's director of communications Robert Bowling, we learn there will be a definite change in the co-op concepts between last year's Call of Duty: World at War and this year's Modern Warfare 2. In Treyarch's effort, we could participate in four-player campaign co-op, but Infinity Ward's new sequel won't feature a campaign co-op mode at all; instead, there's something entirely new: a two-player, specially designed Special Ops mode. It's "designed to be replayed over and over again," and Bowling said they didn't want to pollute the story "by cramming co-op into it." So, they just made a whole new adventure. Special Ops is "all about fun" with a friend and it'll be a completely new experience that is separate from the single-player campaign. And why not four players...? Bowling responds:

"Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things. We just found that two-players was the most fun."

Well, that has the tendency to happen when too many people are trying to work together. Of course, we expect great things from the four player co-op in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but we certainly respect Infinity Ward's way of doing things. A special mode designed for co-op definitely sounds like a plan, and we can't wait to see how it turns out.

Glu has announced that Modern Warfare 2 will be released for sale and playability on mobile phones. It will be available on the Android, Blackberry, BREW, J2ME, and Windows Mobile platforms.Ive thought about this for a little before i decided to post it so I can give all the pro's and con's of this new platform for the game.

PRO'S:
1) playable anywhere your phone gets service
2) for everyone who doesn't own a game console you can now play this game without a big purchase of a new system

not very many pro's but hey if those sound good to you then why not?

CONS:
1)small screen
2)battery killer
3)hard to see your screen if outside
4)graphics wont be anything good

So if you really need to play this game everywhere you go then it sounds like a good purchase for you but otherwise dont waste your money.

Plot

Modern Warfare 2 is set several years after the conclusion of Call of Duty 4. Sergeant "Soap" MacTavish will return as a non-playable character, and has been promoted to captain in the Special Air Service. MacTavish will lead an elite, multinational commando unit, Task Force 141, to counter the resurgent Russian Ultranationalist organization. The group is now led by Vladimir Makarov, a former associate of Imran Zakhaev with his own nationalistic ambitions. Makarov has been portraying Zakhaev's death as an act of martyrdom to garner support for his cause, and has built a strong power base in Russia over the years. In response to the threat posed by Makarov, the global community established Task Force 141 to stop him. The player will take on the role of Task Force member Sgt. Gary "Roach" Sanderson. Mission settings include the mountains of Russia, a desert in Afghanistan, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Hype

Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to Call Of Duty Modern Warfare is speculated to become the best selling video game of all time, but is that really a good thing? Yes everyone will go out and buy the game, but will all of the hype ruin the fun for everyone? Anyone who enjoys the series will love this game, but do to the hype it has brought on I'm not sure it will be able to live up to all expectations and overall it will disappoint most. On November 10th 2009 the greatest game of all time may be released but will we all really appreciate it for what it is, or will we complain because it isn't perfect.
